Orientation Exemptions

New Student Orientation is a required enrollment step for all incoming First-Year and Transfer students to ensure that you are ready to be a successful Mountaineer!

Only students in the populations below or students who have completed New Student Orientation within the last calendar year can be marked exempt from this required enrollment step.

Review the information below to learn how to obtain an exemption and email orientation@appstate.edu with additional questions.

Flight Path Students

Admitted Flight Path students will complete a separate orientation experience and should reach out to admissions@onlineprograms.appstate.edu for more information.

Second Degree Seeking Students

Second-Degree students are not required to complete New Student Orientation.  Instead, a New Mountaineer Guide with important orientation information will be emailed to your App State email address shortly after they have confirmed they will be attending.

Second-Degree students also do NOT have to complete PREP.  Students should refer to the New Mountaineer Guide or reach out to the college advising team that houses the major for more information about class registration. Assigned admissions counselors can assist students in finding this contact information.

UNC System Employees

UNC system employees using tuition waivers to attend classes at App State are not required to complete Orientation. If you are interested in having access to the Online Self-Paced Orientation or need this enrollment step waived, please email orientation@appstate.edu.
