Orientation is a full day of required events to help you with your transition to App State. Check out the schedule for your session below:

Family Engagement
The Family Engagement Team is here to keep parents and families informed, engaged and supported throughout your student's time at App State.
Parents and families are invited to attend a specialized one-day orientation that is tailored specifically for parents and families of new students. This program takes place at the same time as your student’s orientation. Registration is required. Please note, it can take up to one hour after your student registers for their information to be uploaded to the Parent and Family Orientation system.
Summer and Fall Orientation Dates:
First-Year New Student Orientation
These full-day sessions will take place on the Boone campus. More information to prepare for the day can be found on the Orientation Steps page.
Student-Athletes, Watauga Residential College Students, and Honors College Students are encouraged to attend one of the specific dates noted below.
- Student-Athletes: 6/3, 6/11, 6/14, 6/17, 6/21, 6/27, and 8/12
- Watauga Residential College Students: 6/14, 6/17, 6/20, 6/21, 6/24-25 (2-day Overnight Orientation), and 6/27
- Honors College Students: 6/11, 6/13, 6/14, 6/17, 6/18, 6/20, 6/21, and 6/24-6/25 (2-day Overnight Orientation)
- Students beginning classes in Summer Session 1 - must attend the May 31st, 2024, Orientation Session.
In addition to our 1-day sessions, we offer 2-Day Overnight Orientation Sessions to provide an on-campus overnight experience. This opportunity allows students to explore App State, connect with other Mountaineers, and the opportunity to familiarize Yosef with all our campus has to offer! This program has an additional cost ($275.00 compared to the traditional on-day orientation cost of $225.00).

Transfer New Student Orientation

- Student-Athletes must attend one of the following dates: 5/31 and 8/12 (please reach out to orientation@appstate.edu if these dates do not work for you)
- Students beginning classes in Summer Session 1 must attend the May 31, 2024, Orientation Session or Complete the Self-Paced Orientation Course before beginning Summer Session 1 classes.
- Honors College Transfer Students: May 31, 2024

Online Student Orientation
App State online students are encouraged to participate in our Online Self-Paced Orientation -OR- Zoom Orientation Session on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
If you registered for the Online Self-Paced Orientation, the course will be sent to registered students on May 15, 2024 and must be completed by August 1, 2024.
If you registered for our "Late August Self-Paced Orientation Session," it must be completed by August 8, 2024.
Summer 1 & 2 Students are required to complete Orientation before starting classes.
Second-Degree Seeking Students
Second-degree seeking students who attended App State previously, do not have Orientation on their Enrollment Checklist and do not have to complete orientation.
Second-degree seeking students who have NOT attended App State previously, should register for the Online Self-Paced Orientation. Please reach out by email to orientation@appstate.edu if this is not an option when you try to register.
Second Degree Seeking Students do NOT have to complete PREP. Students should reach out to the college advising team that houses the major for more information about class registration. Assigned admissions counselors can assist students in finding this contact information.
Online Self-Paced Orientation
The self-paced orientation is available to select populations of new incoming students.
- The course will be sent to registered students on May 15, 2024 and must be completed by August 1, 2024.
- If you registered for our "Late August Self-Paced Orientation Session," it must be completed by August 8, 2024.
If you do not complete the course by the appropriate date, you must attend the on-campus orientation on August 12, 2024.
