Links to tentative schedules can be found at the bottom of this page.
Parking Information
Parking is available for orientation attendees in the Rivers St. Parking Deck. Your parking fee is included in your orientation cost. You will receive a detailed email with parking information before your orientation session date.
For questions relating to Accessible Parking throughout campus, please refer to our interactive campus map found at: https://maps.appstate.edu.
Knowing Where to Go
New Mountaineers will be assigned to small orientation groups. Each small group will be assigned a SOUL (Student Orientation Undergraduate Leaders), who will help guide the orientation experience for new Mountianeets. Mountaineers will be provided with a printed copy of the daily schedule at check-in.
Lunch is provided to registered attendees. New Mountaineers will experience eating at one of our All Access Campus Dining locations while you attend Orientation.
What to Bring
Boone weather can be unpredictable. Please check the weather before attending and plan accordingly.
Orientation also requires a lot of walking between buildings, so please make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes.
Lodging Information
Overnight accommodations are not provided on campus UNLESS you a student registered for an overnight orientation session. Overnight orientation sessions are available on a limited basis and allow students to stay in a residence hall on campus as part of their orientation experience. Parents and family members are responsible for finding their own overnight accommodations, as on-campus housing is strictly for incoming students.
Discounted rates for select local lodging can be found on the Hotel Accommodations page!
Tentative Schedule of Events
We hold one in-person Orientation session per campus in January for students who are starting at App State for the Spring semester. Both transfer students and first-year students are eligible to attend this session.
Get ready for a new adventure! There is a lot to learn to be prepared for the big transition of moving away from home and attend classes at the University level.
App State loves Transfers! Get ready to learn about how to connect with other students, get involved, find resources, and what it takes to be a successful Mountaineer.
More Resources
The Family Engagement Team is here to keep parents and families informed, engaged and supported throughout your student's time at App State.
Parents and families are invited to attend a specialized one-day orientation that is tailored specifically for parents and families of new students. This program takes place at the same time as your student’s orientation. Registration is required. Please note, it can take up to one hour after your student registers for their information to be uploaded to the Parent and Family Orientation system.
Your enrollment checklist is available in your MyMountaineer portal to guide you through your next steps to becoming a Mountaineer.
This includes information on housing, dining, Health and Immunization records submission and more.
Contact the Office of Disability Resources, if you need accommodations due to a disability for placement tests or during Orientation. Please submit your request for accommodations at least two weeks prior to your event.
