The New Mountaineer & Family Engagement team aims to create welcoming and informative programming, ensuring that students and families are prepared for the transition to App State.
Our efforts are designed to foster student success by equipping students and their families with the tools, resources, and support needed to thrive throughout their collegiate careers.

What is included in the cost?
The Orientation charge covers the cost of the orientation day as well as programming that takes place before and after orientation. Some of these costs include common reading materials, meals, parking, paying and training SOUL and Appol Corps leaders, materials, and more.
Parent and Family Orientation
The cost of guests attending the Parent and Family Orientation is included in the New Student Orientation charge. Guests are not charged separately.
We do ask Parent and Family Orientation guests to register if they plan to attend so that we are able to plan accordingly.
Paying for Orientation
Payment is made through Student Accounts after attending.
The Orientation charge will appear on the student's tuition statement and is paid through the Touchnet billing system. Our office does not have the ability to collect money with a credit card or electronic check. The charge will not be added until the day that they attend.
Students completing the Online Self-Paced Orientation will be billed on the due date for their registered session.
Enrollment Deposit
The Orientation charge is separate from the enrollment deposit that is paid to Admissions to confirm attendance. Our office does not receive any portion of the enrollment deposit.
The Office of Student Accounts offers orientation and tutorials for how to access and understand your billing and payment information.
Payment due dates can also be found on their website.
Financial Aid Resources
We do not want the Orientation cost to be a barrier for students to attend App State. Therefore, the Orientation charge is added to the student account, allowing for more options for payment.
- Students with financial aid awards should reach out to the Office of Student Financial Aid to ensure that they are eligible to use these awards to pay for the Orientation charge.
- If you are still experiencing financial hardship after reaching out to the Financial Aid office, please email orientation@appstate.edu to request the form that is needed to be considered for additional assistance.
For questions and information about FAFSA and accessing Financial Aid awards, you can contact or schedule an appointment with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Withdrawn Students
The Orientation charge is non-refundable once attending and is still required to be paid if a student withdraws from App State.
The only exception to this is for students who withdrew due to financial hardship. Please email orientation@appstate.edu to request the form that is needed to be considered for assistance.
University Employees
App State and UNC system employees using their tuition waiver to attend classes should email orientation@appstate.edu to request to have the New Student Orientation charge waived.
