Tentative Schedule of Events for January New Student Orientation (Boone Campus)

Students will receive a final printed schedule at check-in.

The Parent and Family Orientation schedule will differ from the student schedule. Registered Parents and Families will receive their own printed schedule at check-in.  Visit families.apppstate.edu for more information or to register.

Parking - Rivers Street Parking Deck

Check-in & Coffee - Schaefer Center

9:00-9:30 a.m.Welcome & How to Maximize Your Day - Schaefer Center
Travel Time 
9:45-10:30 a.m.Academic Exploration Department Meetings - Various Locations
Travel Time 
10:45-1:00 p.m.

SOUL Small Group Time - Various Locations

Students will break off into smaller groups with a Student Orientation Undergraduate Leader (SOUL) and rotate through the following:

  • University Language and Resources
  • Lunch with Orientation Small Group
  • Student Engagement and Involvement
  • Academic Essentials and Student Success
Travel Time  
1:15-2:00 p.m.Engaging in Community - I.G. Greer Auditorium
2:00-3:30 p.m.Visit Resource Fair: Campus offices will be available at contact tables to answer questions and share information 


Afternoon Sessions are conference style and students will choose which session to attend in each rotation. 


Rotation 1

2:00-2:45 p.m.

  • Academic Success with University Libraries 
  • Welcome to Teacher Education 
  • Health Professions Advising 
  • Office of Disability Resources 
*The above session options may not be available for each orientation session. A final list will be found on the printed schedule that is received at check-in. 

Rotation 2

3:00-3:45 p.m. 

 Choose 1 session*:
  • Career Development
  • Education Abroad
  • On-Campus Housing 
  • Student Veteran Services 
  • Student Health, Counseling, Recreation, and Wellness

Begin your experience as a Mountaineer

Welcome to App is an extension of your new student orientation and is geared toward helping you get more comfortable on campus, make new friends, have fun and learn more about the university before classes begin. The schedule includes programs that will help you feel more comfortable and confident inside and outside the classroom. Students and community members also participate in the Common Reading program, a shared reading experience. Many of the events are just about making connections and having fun!
